Choose Your Own Adventure Workshop, Sunday 09/20/2026, Noon to 5 pm Washington, DC
Choose your own adventure in this one-day leather crafting workshop.
Katie from Stitch & Rivet supplies the know-how, tools, and thread; you supply the leather.
During the workshop, you will choose one project and cut, finish, hand-stitch, and install hardware.
The available projects are:
Notebook cover
Passport cover
Clutch bag (envelope or zipper top)
Wallet
If it looks like you will not finish during the workshop, we will set up your project to finish at home. Please bring your filler notebook or passport if you choose that project, along with any items you want to keep in your project (e.g., pens, pencils, ID, etc.).

Skills learned in this workshop:
Cutting leather with a clicker press and die (optional)
Edge finishing (bevel, sand, burnish to a high shine)
Hand stitching without a stitching pony
Installing hardware as needed
Leather needs for this workshop vary depending on the project you are making. All projects should be made with 3 oz to 5 oz vegetable-tanned leather; please see below for more information. If you have questions about buying leather, please reach out to Katie asap, or indicate it in the pop-up form during registration.
Notebook Cover:
One project panel at least 13” x 11” or 8” x 18”, 4 oz to 5 oz, or more for a larger notebook cover or to add multiple pockets/pen loops, etc.
Passport Cover:
One 8”x 18” 3.5oz to 4.5 oz vegetable-tanned leather panel or more.
Clutch Bag:
One 11”×18” leather panel in 4 oz to 5 oz vegetable-tanned leather
Wallet:
Card Slide: one project panel at least 4” x 11” or more for a multi-pocket wallet. 3.5 oz - 4 oz
Folded Wallet: two project panels at least 4” x 11”, or one panel at least 13” × 11” or 8” x 18” 3.5 oz - 4 oz

mallets and pounding boards
metal edge rulers for cutting
clicker dies for basic pattern shapes
hand stitching needles
pricking irons in 5mm (for making hand-stitching holes)
water-based adhesive
Tokonole edge fluid
edge beveling tools and burnishing materials
cardstock for making your pattern
thread in a variety of colors
Disclaimers and information: This workshop includes hammering with mallets and may not be appropriate for people with noise sensitivities. Workshop tickets are non-refundable but transferable, so you can gift or sell your ticket to someone else if you cannot attend the class. Students who appear intoxicated or refuse to follow basic safety instructions will not be allowed to participate in classes and will not receive a refund. Light snacks and water/sodas will be provided, and several nearby restaurants are available for lunch if desired.
