This workshop is geared towards people who want an intro to leather know-how to add to their crafty arsenal, desire to add leather details to their projects, like fabric totes, clutches, or cosplay costumes, or want to get into leather crafting and need to learn the basics of how to find the right leather for a project, and some entry level skills for leather working. This workshop does not have a finished project and is purely a hands-on skills class.

You do not need to provide any tools or supplies; however, if you have any and have questions about them, please bring them to class. There will also be time for individual questions about your specific projects and needs.

In this workshop, we will cover:

  • Basic leather information

    • how to buy leather

    • leather terms

    • types of leather tanning

    • leather weights and styles

  • How to cut leather

  • Edge finishing and burnishing

  • Basics of hand stitching

  • Basics of how to select and set hardware

    • rivets

    • snaps

    • Chicago screws

    • grommets

  • Basics of tool selection, safety, and use

Disclaimers and information: This workshop includes hammering with mallets and may not be appropriate for people with noise sensitivities. Workshop tickets are non-refundable but transferable, so you can gift or sell your ticket to someone else if you cannot attend the class. Students who appear intoxicated or unable to follow safety instructions will not be allowed to attend classes and will not receive a refund. Light snacks and water/sodas will be provided, and there are several nearby restaurants for a lunch break if desired.
